The National Weather Service’s Boston office issued a winter weather advisory on Friday over ice concerns in parts of Massachusetts.
The advisory is in effect for most of the morning and day Saturday in the western, central and northeastern areas of the state.
The NWS issues winter weather advisories for local precipitation that could be hazardous but is not expected to accumulate. Alternatively, winter storm watches and warnings indicate greater chance of snow, sleet or ice accumulating.
The agency is warning travelers to take caution in the affected areas this weekend.

The agency said freezing rain and cold temperatures will result in ice in some areas, but not a lot is expected — the NWS is forecasting no more than a tenth of an inch of ice in the advisory areas.
“Given the expected increased traffic volume coming out of the recent holidays, and that light freezing rain events often cause greater travel impacts, coordination with neighboring offices prompted issuance of Winter Weather Advisories which run from 4 a.m. til 1 p.m. Saturday,” the agency’s forecasters wrote Friday.
