When and where St. Louis is expecting severe weather this weekend


ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis region will see scattered showers late tonight through midday Saturday, with the heaviest rain expected in southern Illinois and southeast Missouri. While the metro area will be on the fringe of the system, cloudy skies and light rain will keep temperatures in the 60s. No severe weather is expected on Saturday.

Sunday brings a heightened risk of severe storms, with the area now under a level 3 out of 5 risk for damaging weather. Storms are expected to develop from midday through the afternoon and early evening. While uncertainties remain about the exact timing and intensity, strong to severe storms are possible, with threats including damaging winds, very large hail, and isolated tornadoes. The system may intensify east of St. Louis, but some severe storms could still impact the metro area.

  • Tonight – Saturday midday: Scattered showers, mostly south of St. Louis, with no severe weather expected.

  • Saturday afternoon – evening: Cloudy with cooler temperatures in the 60s.

  • Sunday midday – afternoon: Storms begin developing, with strong to severe storms possible.

  • Sunday afternoon – early evening: Peak severe weather threat, with potential for damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.

  • Sunday evening: Storms move east, with the highest risk shifting away from the metro area.
