When asked what was behind the light, local astronomer Jay Reynolds confirmed to FOX 8: “NO Question, a launch. Who? Not sure, but a launch!”

A SpaceX rocket launch took place before dawn Tuesday out of Cape Canaveral, Florida, which included tech entrepreneur Jared Isaacman. That’s about when the sightings took place in Northeast Ohio.

The rocket is carrying a crew of four to the highest earth orbit ever where they will be conducting 36 experiments and attempting a space walk Thursday.

What is most unusual about the launch is that it was visible here in northeast Ohio. FOX 8 has reached out to NASA for comment.

Reynolds speculates that could be because of the angle of the launch, but also its position in the sky just before sunrise.

“Because it is just before sunrise it was glowing because it is so high up,” he said. “And it’s something we don’t see up here in Northeast Ohio. I mean it’s rare, think I’ve seen two launch plumes in my life up here.”

Lights from Starlink, a satellite internet constellation operated by SpaceX, are often seen over Northeast Ohio. Find out more about those right here.
