UPDATE: Police make arrest in Franklin Lakes homicide, identify victim


FRANKLIN LAKES — Police officials have identified the victim of a Sunday morning homicide as well as the man they say killed him.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said David Allen Hagal, a 60-year-old unemployed man was charged with first-degree murder in the killing of 87-year-old George J. Hagal.

The prosecutor’s office did not release a motive or the relationship between the men.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the borough’s police department were on the scene at 552 Haddon Place early on Sunday morning to investigate a homicide.

Shortly after 7:30 a.m. local police responded to the home and found the “victim deceased,” according to information released by Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella.

The arrest came hours into the investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under Chief Jason Love and the borough police under Officer in Charge Captain Mark McCombs.

Detectives from the two departments conducted the investigation and determined that early Sunday morning “David Allen Hagal killed George J. Hagal.”

The suspect was also charged with two counts of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and two counts of fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
