Two Shasta County sheriff’s deputies are on paid administrative leave after a man was shot and killed outside a Redding home on Tuesday.Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a man “under the influence of narcotics” at a home in the 12000 block of Bob’s Mountain Road at about 6:17 p.m., according to a statement from the sheriff’s office released Thursday.

The man was reportedly threatening to blow up a vehicle, trying to harm himself and was reported to be with his parents, said a statement from sheriff’s office spokesman Tim Mapes.

The deputies arrived to find the man’s parents outside the residence, the statement said.

The man, identified as 52-year-old William Clark Littlefield, then came out of the house and “forced a violent confrontation, which forced two Sheriff’s deputies to discharge their duty weapons,” Mapes’ statement said.

After the shooting, the deputies provided medical aid, but medical staff later declared Littlefield dead, according to Mapes.

The deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave, which Mapes said was standard protocol in officer-involved shooting cases.

The Shasta County Officer Involved Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the incident and no other information was being released for now, Mapes said.
