Polaroid and Eames Office, both trailblazers in their respective fields, have teamed up to introduce a new instant camera, the Polaroid Now Generation 2 – Eames Edition, in the classic fiberglass shade known as “Elephant Hide Gray.” This collaboration pays tribute to the longstanding innovation and creativity championed by Charles and Ray Eames, two of the 20th century’s most influential designers.
The history shared between Polaroid and Eames Office stretches back to the 1970s, a period marked by their commitment to making design and technology more accessible. Charles and Ray Eames were pioneers who believed that design should be available to all, a philosophy that aligns with Polaroid’s mission to democratize photography. Their collaboration included featuring Polaroid’s instant photography in various exhibitions and educational endeavors, significantly highlighting the SX-70 camera in a 1972 campaign. This partnership not only enhanced the visibility of Polaroid cameras among artists and designers but also blended the realms of art and technology, inspiring a new wave of creatives.

The new Polaroid Now Generation 2 Instant Camera – Eames Edition includes a striking wrist strap that draws inspiration from the iconic geometric patterns of the Eames Toy. This camera is not just a functional piece; it is a collector’s item that integrates several advanced features. It boasts a self-timer, double exposure modes, a two-lens autofocusing system, and is made from 40% recycled materials. Additionally, it is rechargeable via USB-C and compatible with both Polaroid i-Type and 600 Film.
In addition to the Eames name printed in white across the body of the camera, the Eames Office logo, which originally appeared on the back of the 1952 Eames-designed House of Cards, appears on the shutter button for another nod to the design duo.
The “Elephant Hide Gray” color selection is a nod to the timeless aesthetic of the Eames designs, merging historical elegance with contemporary functionality. The color symbolizes the connection between heritage and modernity, celebrating the enduring influence of the Eames’ design philosophy.
