One person killed, five others injured in Friday fire in Middletown


MIDDLETOWN – One person died and five others were injured in a fire Friday morning in Middletown.

The fire broke out at 8 Knapp Ave. shortly before 5:30 a.m. Friday.

The Middletown Fire Department said flames were already engulfing significant portions of the building when the first firefighters arrived on the scene four minutes after the fire was first reported.

There were six occupants inside the residence at the time the fire broke out, and one of them did not survive the blaze. The name of the person who died is being withheld, pending notification of family members.

The five other people were taken by Empress EMS to Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown, where they are being treated for various injuries. No further information on their conditions was available.

The fire was placed under control at 12:48 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
