One injury reported after small fire in patient room at UPMC Hanover: officials

A small fire in a patient room at UPMC Hanover hospital left one victim injured on Monday evening, officials said.

Firefighters were originally called to a report of a fire alarm at the UPMC Hanover Hospital on the 300 block of Highland Avenue in Hanover Borough around 6:39 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2025, according to York County 911 records.

When firefighters arrived at the hospital for an activation of Hanover Borough’s Gamewell fire alarm box system, they learned that there was a fire reported inside of a patient room, Hanover Area Fire & Rescue assistant chief Andrew Crouse confirmed at the scene Monday evening.

One victim sustained injuries due to the small fire, Crouse said, though he was unable to provide further information on that victim’s condition or the nature of the fire.

The flashing strobes of fire alarms were seen going off in some portions of the building, though the building did not appear to be evacuated due to the fire. Hospital personnel were seen entering and exiting the building as the fire department began to depart the scene.

The small fire was extinguished, and the fire department turned the scene over to hospital personnel.

Further information was not immediately available on Monday evening.

Hanover Area Fire & Rescue and the Hanover Borough Police Department are investigating the fire.
