SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – We are watching a tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico that is expected to eventually develop into Hurricane Francine. Landfall is expected by the middle of the week south of the ArkLaTex. Heavy rain will be possible for some.
We continue to enjoy a very pleasant weather pattern across the ArkLaTex this weekend. Sunday began with lows in the 50s and low 60s. Afternoon temperatures have warmed into the low to middle 80s. Expect similar conditions on Monday. It could be a little cooler Monday morning as all of the area will likely dip into the 50s a few spots over the northern edge of the area could dip into the 40s. Daytime highs on Monday will likely warm into the mid to upper 80s. I hope that you have enjoyed the weather of the past few days as conditions will go downhill very quickly on Tuesday and especially Wednesday.
Futurecast shows that we will see a clear sky across the area Sunday night which will be followed by a mostly sunny sky once again on Monday. Expect the clouds to increase Monday night and Tuesday with a chance for some rain late Tuesday over the southern half of the area. By that time we will likely be tracking a tropical depression and possibly Tropical Storm Francine that will be moving through the Northwestern Gulf of Mexico.
As of right now tropical models indicate that this system will track near the southeastern edge of the area late Wednesday and Wednesday night. This track will be much farther to the southeast than the track of Beryl a few months ago. While an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out over the SE edge of the area, we will not see the widespread outbreak of tornadoes that we experienced with Beryl. The main tornado threat will be to the southeast of our area over SE Louisiana and Mississippi. Our main concern could become heavy rain. Areas over the SE part of the ArkLaTex near Natchitoches could see over two inches of rain with isolated heavier totals possible. The rain is looking much more limited for the rest of the area with amounts less than 1″.
The week will end with the return of sunshine and rather hot conditions starting on Friday. Daytime highs will return to the lower 90s. Overnight lows will rise into the upper 60s to lower 70s. Rain is looking doubtful from Friday through the middle of next week.
