Funeral held for Greenbrier High School student in Savannah, GoFundMe created for family

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up for the family of a 15-year-old Columbia County boy who died Thursday in an Evans crash.

Greenbrier High School student Gordon Carmichael, 15, died Thursday after crashing a Jeep on Riverwood Parkway near the entrance to the Amberley subdivision in Evans, according to previous reporting.

Riverwood Parkway is a main entrance to the clustered campuses of Greenbrier Elementary, Middle and High schools.

The wreck was discovered at about 4:30 a.m., The Chronicle reported. The boy’s mother reported her son and the Jeep missing at about 5:50 a.m.

The GoFundMe, created by Wanda Reid, of Evans, notes the fundraiser will help with funeral and family travel expenses, as well as aid Carmichael’s mother, Heather Santos, as she takes time off work.

“If you are able and feel led to support financially, please do so and if you’re not in a position to do that, we ask for continued prayers for Gordon’s mom, Heather, and his entire family,” according to the site. “Gordon Carmichael [was] a beloved son, grandson, nephew, friend, teammate and classmate! Gone from this earth too soon but never forgotten. We will see you on the other side…”

The GoFundMe, which was created Friday, has raised nearly $8,000 of the $30,000 goal, as of Tuesday afternoon.
