Flag Flies at Half-Mast to Honor 9 Helicopter Crash Victims in El Salvador


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in El Salvador lowered the country’s flag to half-mast on Monday, September 9, to honor several officials who were killed in a helicopter crash on Sunday.

Footage released by the Cancilleria de El Salvador shows the flag of El Salvador flying at half-mast outside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office in Ciudad Merliot on Monday. National Civil Police Director Mauricio Arriaza Chicas and other high-ranking police officials died in the crash while transporting a fugitive banker on Sunday night.

According to a local news outlet, Nayib Bukele, the president of El Salvador, ordered that all flags be flown at half-mast for the next three days to honor Chicas. The cause of the crash is under investigation. Credit: Canciller
