With the election over, I’ve concluded we, as citizens, need to stay active and provide pushback and constructive criticism, where we can, to help preserve this democracy of ours in the days ahead.
President-elect Donald Trump thrives on chaos, conflict and turmoil, which we consistently had during his first term, and we are seeing again with his executive office recommendations. I had hoped he would be influenced by more sane minds in his selections, but that is not happening.
Competency, qualifications and applicable experience have no merit in Trump’s appointments so far but loyalty and compatibility to his extreme agenda are prerequisites to being picked for these important government jobs. How else do you explain why Stephen Miller (widely known white nationalist with extreme anti-immigration views) for Deputy Chief of Staff, Pete Hegseth (Fox TV anchor, alleged sexual assaulter) for Secretary of Defense, Tulsi Gabbard (alleged Russian and other foreign agent asset) for Director of National Intelligence, and Robert Kennedy Jr (avowed anti-vaccine and anti-science activist) for Department of Health and Human Services, are but a few of the quacks and charlatans Trump wants in his administration?
Sadly, this is just the beginning of a rough ride we are in for. Let’s hope and pray we are up to the challenge.
