Both highways in Pismo Beach are about to face a month of traffic slowdowns. Here’s why

A monthlong construction project to install a water drain in Pismo Beach begins Monday and will result in overnight traffic control or lane closures on Highways 1 and 101 through the city.

Caltrans said in a news release that a culvert installation project will result in overnight lane and ramp closures on Highway 101 and one-way reversing traffic control on Highway 1 between Shell Beach and downtown Pismo Beach.

A culvert is a large transverse drain that channels water typically underneath a road or railroad.

On Highway 101, Caltrans said, the northbound lane closure will be from Bello Street to Mattie Road and the southbound closure will be from the Mattie Road on-ramp to the Price Street off-ramp.

The northbound Bello Street on-ramp will also be closed.

The one-way traffic control on Highway 1 will be from Harbor View Avenue to Ocean Way.

The closures and one-way reversing traffic control will take place from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night starting Monday.

Construction for the $214,000 project is expected to be completed by the end of August. Message and directional signs will be in place to alert the public.

America Pacific Construction Inc., an Eastvale construction company, is contracted to complete the project, Caltrans said.
