Appleton school board approves boundaries for the new Sandy Slope school

APPLETON – On Monday night, the Appleton Area School Board approved boundaries for Sandy Slope Elementary School carved out from Huntley Elementary School.

However, the new boundaries leave open the possibility of reassigning boundaries to Ferber Elementary later, adopting the option the district presented two weeks ago.

The boundaries will give Sandy Slope a chance to take shape and see what the Thrivent redevelopment looks like in a few years, superintendent Greg Hartjes previously explained.

Sandy Slope’s attendance area will be bounded on the west by Richmond, Edgewood and Meade streets, on the south by Interstate 41, on the north by Broadway Drive, and on the east between North French and North Holland Road. Huntley Elementary families will have the option to either move to Sandy Slope or stay at Huntley.

The newly adopted boundary area for Sandy Slope Elementary School includes leaving open the possibility of assigning part of the Thrivent campus (outlined and labeled TBD, to Ferber later.

The motion was approved by the vast majority of the board: Kristine Sauter, Edward Ruffolo, James Bacon, Pheng Thao, Jason Kolpack and Nick Ross. Board president Kay Eggert abstained, citing a potential conflict of interest.
