“Robert and I attended the same school, but we hardly spoke and didn’t date. Before heading off to university, I mentioned to his friend that I found him cute but left it at that. A year later, Rob slid into my DMs. Initially, I was hesitant because we had just finished sixth form and were all heading off to university. We eventually started dating after finding out we had a-lot in common, and the rest is history”
The first couple of years were long-distance, with Rob moving to Liverpool and me staying in London for university. Despite the distance, we managed to make it work. After we both graduated, we bought a flat and spent a few years renovating it during the pandemic.
During a trip to Cornwall with some friends, Rob planned to propose. He arranged for me to have a massage one afternoon while he figured out where to propose and coordinated with a photographer to capture the moment. As we walked to our dinner reservation along the coast at sunset, he pointed out to the sea, claiming to have spotted a dolphin. When I turned back around, he was on one knee. It was absolutely beautiful, intimate, and the weather was perfect, he proposed during sunset. He went the extra mile to capture this special moment on camera, making it a memory I wouldn’t change for anything.”

“We hosted a welcome dinner the night before our wedding at the Harbour Inn Richmond, a beautiful spa hotel. With family coming from Australia and Germany, it was wonderful to have everyone together before the big day.”

“I started off my wedding morning at the spa with my sisters and cousin because I wanted it to be as zen as possible. I got ready with my two sisters, and my brother joined us at the end—my bridal party. I wore a beautiful slip dress and gown from Intimissimi.”

When it came to my dress, I already had in mind what kind of style I wanted. I always imagined myself wearing something elegant and fitted with sleeves. Specifically, I wanted a slightly slim-fitted dress with a corset and long sleeves. My sisters joined me for dress shopping, and we visited several bridal shops. We found my actual dress at a bridal shop called The Wedding Club in South Kensington. It was the last dress I tried on, and as soon as I put it on, I was in absolute awe. I got very emotional and knew right away that this was the dress I wanted to get married in—it was the best feeling.

“For jewellery, I chose a Swarovski pearl Matrix necklace and pear-cut Millenia hoop earrings because I wanted to keep it elegant. Rob designed my engagement ring, opting for a platinum marquise shape, which I absolutely love. For our wedding bands, we went back to the same jeweller who made my engagement ring and designed matching bands. We had our initials and wedding date engraved in them.”
“Our invitations were from Papier. I used pictures from our engagement shoot (photographer @beatricerigby ) and designed the invites via Papier. It was such an easy process. The invitation included the wedding details, a QR code for our honeymoon fund, and a link to our website to select your wedding meals.”

“I ordered custom wax stamps with Rob’s and my initials to seal the invites. To save money I hand-designed our wedding stationery (order of service and menus) and had them printed at our local print shop. I really enjoy art, drawing, and painting, but I don’t get much time to do it often, so I took the opportunity to design our wedding stationery.”

“We got married at Kew Gardens in Richmond. We had a date there a few years ago, and I jokingly said to Rob, ‘Imagine we got married here.’ A few years later, after he proposed, we went back to see it as a wedding venue option and both fell in love with it. We loved the beautiful surroundings, the natural light that fills the buildings, and the fact that most of our family and friends live in the UK, making it convenient for our guests. The historical building added an extra layer of charm to our special day.”

“We had our ceremony at the Nash Conservatory in Kew Gardens, which you can access from the Elizabeth Gate. I hand-designed the order of service booklets, which included a message from Rob and me thanking everyone for coming, a timeline of the day, and details of the wedding party.”

“My vision was to keep the design elegant, classy, and clean. Kew is naturally beautiful and has many historical buildings—we were fortunate that the buildings speak for themselves. For flowers, I wanted something in season since spring is my favourite season. I chose a selection of wild white flowers mixed with green foliage.”

“The reception exceeded our expectations. We were fortunate with the weather, as it had been grey and raining in the days leading up to our wedding, but we had beautiful sunset light streaming in as the speeches were being made. My uncle began by introducing us into the venue and offering a prayer before dinner. Following that, Rob’s best man, my sister, my brother, and Rob gave heartfelt speeches.”

“We enjoyed a three-course meal prepared by our selected catering company, Beseasoned. Our guests were able to make their menu selections before the wedding. In the evening, we had an open bar featuring his-and-hers signature drinks: margaritas and Negronis.”

“After dinner, our evening guests joined us as we cut our cake—a beautiful three-tier creation designed by Paddy Cakes in Kentish Town. The bottom layer was Guinness-flavored, the middle tier was red velvet, and the top was carrot cake. The cake was stunning, covered in fondant with a bow.”

“Immediately after, we had our first dance to a live performance by Velvet Notes, who sang ‘My First Love’ by Anthony Hamilton ft. LaToiya Williams, one of our favorite songs. Our parents then joined us on the dance floor, and the party truly began—we danced all night.”

“We both then changed into African custom wear for our second look. Since I am originally from Congo, we sourced the material from there and had it designed by AJJOA. Congo is very colourful and bright, so I chose pink and purple for my outfit to reflect that vibrancy.”

WWW Weddings Tip: “Start planning early and keep everything organised. Use a wedding planning checklist and maintain a detailed schedule to ensure nothing is overlooked. I used excel spreadsheets, websites like hitched.com and organised binders of moodboards, saying that It is really easy to give yourself pressure in creating ‘the perfect day’ i am guilty of it but do expect things to not go to plan – i convinced myself nothing will because of how much detail i put into planning and things still went wrong.”
