Tragic 12 hours: 2 fatal crashes, 2 hit-and-runs in Las Vegas valley


LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Two people are dead and two others are hospitalized with critical injuries following four separate crashes, including two hit-and-run crashes, around the Las Vegas valley within 12 hours.

Hit-and-run crash on I-15 injures woman

The most recent crash occured early Thanksgiving morning on I-15 southbound near Lake Mead Boulevard where a woman was struck by a hit-and-run driver and suffered critical injuries, according to Nevada State Police.

Troopers are asking the public for assistance in finding the hit-and-run suspect’s vehicle, a 2018 Cadillac Escalade or a GMC Yukon, and the driver. The vehicle’s color is unknown, but it may have left front or side damage.

Deadly hit-and-run crash involving stolen vehicle on E. Lake Mead Blvd.

Another early morning crash on Thanksgiving killed a 28-year-old man on a scooter who was attempting to cross the intersection of E. Lake Mead Boulevard and Sloan Lane just before 2 a.m.

Las Vegas Metropolitan police said the man was struck by a stolen vehicle described as a 2013 Hyundai Sonata which was speeding when it entered the intersection. The driver of the stolen car lost control after the crash, and struck several fixed objects, causing the driver to be ejected.

According to police, the driver and passenger fled the area on foot. The scooter rider died at the scene.

Woman struck, killed at Nellis and Twain

On Wednesday, just before 7:30 p.m., a 56-year-old woman crossing Nellis Boulevard, south of Twain Avenue, was outside of a crosswalk when she was struck and killed by a driver in a Nissan Sentra.

Metro police said the Nissan’s driver remained at the scene and did not show signs of impairment. The woman who was struck was transported to Sunrise Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Pedestrian critically injured at Valley View and Blue Diamond

A pedestrian is hospitalized with critical injuries after being struck around 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday on South Valley View Boulevard north of Blue Diamond Road.

Metro police said the pedestrian was crossing Valley View, outside of a marked crosswalk, when they were struck by a Chevrolet Cruze. Police said the driver remained at the scene and did not show any signs of impairment.

All of the crashes remain under investigation.
