Furniture and homewares staple Arper stuns yet again with their release of two new pieces, the Ghia 74 Table and the Kata Chair. Designed by Altherr Désile Park, expertly wrought forms marry the geometric with the organic.

A welcome addition to the Ghia Collection, the Ghia 74 table provides custom-level quality and finishes with a multitude of tabletop shapes to choose from. Inspired by the soft, sloping forms that we find within nature, the wooden Ghia Collection is meant to be placed in different configurations, with low, dining, and meeting heights to accommodate any interior’s needs.
Arranged organically, like stones in a river, these pieces elevate the serene aesthetic. Designed either to stand alone or arranged in groups, the Ghia Collection is versatile. The clean lines and smart finishes characteristic to the pieces add a quiet opulence to the scene. Altherr Désile Park speaks on their work: “We think about furniture as a system of relations. How collections relate to one another, how they relate to architecture, materials, and objects in the space, how they relate to us through the spaces they shape.”
The Kata Chair is a delicately rendered piece made from solid oak. The Kata Collection centers around circular design, sustainability considered at every stage of the design process. Indeed, this is the only way to truly ensure that this is legitimately eco-friendly design. As Lance Hosey states in his book The Shape of Green: “Aesthetic attraction is not a superficial concern – it’s an environmental imperative. Beauty could save the planet.”
This collection is characterized by an offset between the back leg and the seat, offering a thoughtful consideration of negative space. The textured back creates the illusion of fine horizontal lines. This is inspired by woven straw furniture, slimming and chic in the black finish shown below.
Of course, upholstered options are available as well. All colors in the Kata Collection, as well as all pieces within the Arper brand, are derived from nature. Clay, terracotta, ash, and tangerine are all represented here, familiar hues in a reserved palette. Dining and lounge versions add flexibility in design, bringing the Kata Collection with you from dinner to drinks.
