Authorities are investigating the homicide of a woman in downtown Austin, the Austin Police Department said at a news conference Monday.
Patrolling police officers were flagged down on foot by a passerby to an alleyway near the 500 block of East Sixth Street and Neches Street after 1:30 a.m. Monday and found an injured woman, said officer Jeremy Fisher, an Austin Police Department spokesperson. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where she died, he said.
Fisher did not provide details on her injuries, saying it was not an “apparent trauma.”
The victim’s age was not provided.

At the time of the news conference, police had detained and were questioning a person of interest, and canvassing the area for surveillance footage, Fisher said.
Fisher encouraged anyone with information about the killing to reach out to the homicide unit at 512-477-3588 or the department’s tip line at 512-472-8477.
