LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Former Clark County School District Superintendent Dr. Jesus Jara has a new job with a firm that administers testing in the education sector.
The company, Prometric, announced Jara will be its new global leader in a news release issued Tuesday evening. It said Jara will be in a “newly-created role that will address the evolving needs of the K-12 Education market, including the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI) in education.”
“Dr. Jara’s extensive experience in leading one of the nation’s largest school systems, coupled with his dedication to educational equity and excellence, aligns with our mission to leverage technology for accessible and effective learning solutions,” CEO Stuart Udell said.
Jara, an embattled superintendent during most of his time at CCSD, left his job in February 2024 after nearly six years on the job. His job as superintendent was fraught with issues including a contentious contract battle with the teachers’ union over teacher pay. During a legislative session, lawmakers criticized Jara for the district’s low proficiency and inability to retain teachers. The CCSD Board of Trustees had even voted to fire him in 2021 and then turned around and rehired him.
When Jara left the district, he was given a $250,000 buyout of his contract. The school board is in the process of a nationwide search for a new superintendent.
